GIRLFRIENDS AND BIRTHDAYS

so my lovely girlfriend becca's birthday is around a week away and i need to come up with something to get her. birthdays are harder to me than Christmas. at Christmas, people put together 'wish lists' and the like so you know what to look for and attempt to get for them. birthdays are special though, we'll go out to dinner of course, but to find that thoughtful gift is the harder part of the two.
i'm a very practical person, so i'd like to get a practical gift, but those aren't always as 'special' as superfluous gift given soley for the thoughtfulness. i dunno, i have at least a few ideas but most of them don't seem very birthday-ish to me even though i know she could use them. hmmm, decisions decisions decisions.
(and ted, don't say an engagement ring! haha, that will happen eventually, but not in time for this birthday. :P )

JUST BE CREATIVE. BRITA IS GREAT TAND THOUGHTFUL BUT I WOULD SUGGEST TAKING SOME TIME AND MAKING HER A COUPON BOOK REDEEMABLE BY YOU. EX: A PICNIC, YOU PREPARE DINNER, MOVIE OF HER CHOICE ETC. IT IS THE THOUGHT THAT MEANS SO MUCH BUT PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT ROMANCE IS A HUGE PLUS. BEST WISHES

My husband is like you, so I often get gifts that are practical. I remember one year for my birthday, he actually bought me a zero-radius lawnmower. Although, it was not very romantic, the lawnmower is still a reminder that he did attempt to get me something he thought I needed and would enjoy. He knows I'm not much for flowers and I don't need jewelry. He also knows the most important thing to me is not the actual gift but the thought put into choosing a gift that he felt I would love and not what he wanted me to have or what he thought I expected. By the way, I do love the lawnmower. I don't know how your girlfriend defines romantic, but when I think about it I would much rather have my husband the way he is instead of trying to be something he is not, so I guess on those terms he is more romantic than I give him credit for.
