Experience Music

so i bought another stack of CD's late last week. Justin, our program/music director at the station makes fun of me everytime i buy the physical compact discs saying i'm the only one these days keeping CD's alive rather than going digital. while i think that's pretty funny, i don't see myself stopping my purchases anytime soon.

there's just something about that CD in your hands. the way the case slightly sticks to your hands when you take the cellophane wrapping off, the trick of unhinging the CD to get those pesky stickers off the edges and of course the pop of the CD as you pull it from it's holder and then looking through the booklet insert while reading the lyrics as you listen along.

this is the kind of stuff digital copies can never reproduce, the "unboxing" if you will. i've also started my vinyl collection in the past year...talk about a listening experience! you have to set aside time to listen to music then. you can't just pop in a CD or hook up your MP3 player. you've got to sit down, set it on the turntable just right and then be near the record player just in case it skips or anything. i love it. music should be experienced every now and then. not always just coldly downloaded and then listened to in the background of your day to day.
