Musical Memories

do you tie music to memories? it happens all the time to me. i hear a song, and i'm immediately transported to some other place and time where i heard that song and had tied some memory to it. there's some music that i've ruined for myself cause i can't hear it without thinking about what i once was going while listening to the sounds (i ruined listening to a band i like called Watashi-Wa by always playing video games while listening to them! grrrr)

from drumming on overturned laundry baskets and bean bag chairs to Phil Collins, holding hands with my high school girlfriend to a Jars of Clay song or playing Rock Band with my college roommates to any number of songs, certain tunes are irreversibly woven into particular memories. i honestly don't think it can be helped!

it just goes to show me the power of music. how certain chords, intros or drumbeats can spark a memory i had long since forgotten about and bring it to mind so vividly. i find it amazing that God has allowed human beings to manipulate sounds into something that at times, is so divinely beautiful. it definitely reaffirms my belief daily in what J103 is doing. the power of music is evident not only in my life with the memories and emotions it evokes or brings back to mind, but also in the lives changed and souls saved that i get to hear about everyday at work.

i love my job!

...and boy do i love music.
