I'M NOT READY TO FOCUS ON CHRISTMAS!!!
Ted Gocke
Ted Gocke

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas!  Celebrating the birth of our Savior is one of my favorite times of the year.  I just always feel guilty shopping, or decorating before we take that incredible day this month to "Thank" God for all of our blessings.  Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays also.

As a child, my three brothers and I would get up and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade-anticipating the arrival of Santa Claus at the end.  Doesn't that teach us something?  Santa waited until the appropriate time-the end of the parade-to make his appearance.

After the parade-we would get dressed and head to my Aunt Virginia and Uncle Charles where our very large extended family would gather, (My Aunt Virginia was my Grandpa Wiley's sister.  They had ten brothers and sisters-I was blessed with a lot of aunts and uncles and tones of cousins!)  At Aunt Virginia's we would eat a huge feast and spend time playing games like Candyland, Trouble-with the "pop-a-matic", and Sorry.  After dinner we would always go across the street to the old school and play hide-and-seek or football.  It was a blast.

The day after Thanksgiving was when we officially kicked off the Christmas season.  There were no Christmas trees up, no lights turned on-until the day after Thanksgiving.  The only hint that Christmas was coming was the fact that the Sears and JC Penny's Christmas Catalog's had come in October.

That's how it should be!  Remember to focus on Thanksgiving and counting all of our blessings (at least for the next two weeks.)

According to the rules of the "Morning Show with Ted-Home Edition" You can go ahead and hang up your Christmas decorations-just don't light them up until the day after Thanksgiving!

My daughter's birthday is the week before Thanksgiving. She has always reminded me to keep three things in mind. " You had me, give thanks for your blessing, and then we do Christmas." Although meant as a joke, it has kept my priorities lined up for the last 17 years. We do the birthday and concentrate on everything we have had to be thankful for. Then we move into the Advent and looking forward to celebrating the birth of our Savior.
