AND TO THINK THAT I SAW IT ON MULBERR...
Ted Gocke

This is Dr. Seuss week in most schools.  A week where they focus on getting community leaders to come in and read their favorite books.

I just got back from reading to a 5th grade class at East Ridge Elementary School.  I had a blast, and it appears the kids did too, (even though the book I read they had heard last week!)

Knowing that they had already heard the book made me "spice it up a little."  Come to think of it-that's pretty appropriate for the book I read.

My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street."  It is a story of a little boy who's father challenges him to look for and remember all of the exciting things he sees as he is walking to and from school.

The little boy tries to see everything he can and the only thing he sees is a horse and cart-definitely not as exciting as it should be he thinks.  He decideds to embellish "a little," and comes up with Zebras pulling sleds, elephants pulling band wagons, police motorcycle escorts, a man with a 3 foot beard and the mayor and elected officials celebraing this parade while an airplane dumps confetti from above.

But once he gets home and his dad sits him down-all he can come up with is "I saw a horse and a cart on Mulberry Street."

God has always gifted me with a good sense of imagination and a sense of wonder.

This weekend-read to your kids!  I can't help but think that I captured the students attention so much because they don't often (if ever) have parents reading to them.  They love it!
