Friday morning you need to be listening to the Morning Show for several reasons:

1. We are going to be announcing the JFEST line up, (heads up-it will actually be announced on the JFEST Facebook page Thursday). From the few that know they think this is the best line up ever!

2. We are going to be talking with Dixie Fuller from the Riverbend Festival about this year's Faith and Family Night Headliner and some of the support acts. (We are going to give you a sneak peak on the J103 Facebook page.

3. With the Super Bowl on Sunday we are going to be talking favorite Super Bowl Snacks, go over some of your recipes (check out the Morning show page here at J103.com) and award two listeners a J103 prize pack for their recipes.

4. Ever wanted to make Chicken Wings for your family but didn't want to spend hours in front of a fryer? A good friend of mine Todd Hartman (from Grillin Thyme Catering) is going to come in and share with us how to make easy, delicious chicken wings that will make you the talk of the family. He brought some sweet and hot ones in for us to sample today.......I love "hot/spicy" foods but the ones he brought in for me to try today? Wow! That's Hot!

Gods Speed Mike!

One of my friends has just signed off of live radio for what he thinks is the last time. Mike Lee has been such a blessing to the J103 ministry for a number of years-most recently the last several.

He came in when the ministry was facing a pretty tough financial time and volunteered his incredible talent for our afternoon show.

Mike is going back to truck-driving, a love he has. He loves the potential of ministering to other truckers, those he comes into contact with at the stops, and anyone he will encounter.

Join me in praying for Mike and God's working in his ministry as he is on the road. Also pray for his family as they adjust to periods of seperation.

Mike-keep it between the lines, out of the ditches, and under the speed limit!!!

Know that every time I see a big red truck-I'm praying for you and your family!

Love you bro!

Format the Card!!!!

For Christmas this year I blessed my wife with a new camera. She was so excited to open it and begin taking pictures with it right away. She took pictures of everything!!!! The Christmas tree, the dogs, Christmas Dinner, our family, the centerpiece on the table, you name it....she captured it.......or so she thought.

After her parents went home, and we had everything cleaned up, we sat down and began to look at the instruction manuel to see all of the really neat features this new camera had.

To our horror we learned that the first thing you had to do was "format the memory disc." What that means in "non-computer talk" is that all of the pictures she had taken could not be retrieved.

After we got over the disappointment that all of those images were now lost she began shooting again...(after we formatted the disc!)

It reminds me of many people's lives. We get so busy doing so many things that we fail to make sure the most important things are taken care of.

The most important thing for anyone is our Salvation in Jesus Christ. We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ this time of year because He had to be born so He could die for our sins. We must make sure that we have accepted Jesus into our hearts and lives before anything else. That acceptance of the gift God gave us is the most important thing. Just like pictures on an unformatted disc if you don't have Jesus Christ in your heart-nothing else will matter.

Format your heart-give it to Jesus! Then......smile and say "Cheese!"

And that Charlie Brown.....

As a child I loved "It's a Charlie Brown Christmas." When it would come on TV I would be glued to the set.

I loved it when Snoopy and Woodstock would decorate his doghouse and then win the decorating contest.

I loved it when all of the needles would fall off the tree Charlie Brown bought.

But the part I loved the most is when Linus shared the true meaning of Christmas and recited Luke's account of the Birth of Jesus.

I never thought it was odd that they suddenly turned off the lights and cast the spotlight of the auditorium on him as he shared. Because, you see, as a child, to me Christmas was all about a lot of things-presents, decorations, fun with family and the story of the Birth of Jesus.

Once I gave my life to Jesus, suddenly I knew why the spotlight was shown on Linus.....because that is what the spotlight should shine on each Christmas-the Birth of Jesus Christ.

We have one week left until Christmas Day. Will you join me in shining the spotlight on the Birth of Jesus?

When you are up before the dawn and spend most of your day inside-it really makes it appear to be a short day when the sun goes down so early. Medical experts have confirmed a Seasonal Attitude Disorder (SAD) and sometimes I think I have a mild-case of it.

Twice this week already, my wife and I have looked at each other and said, "Wow, it feels like it is 10 o'clock" when really it was only 5:30 or 6:00.

Thankful for Thanksgiving

It just comes natural to stop this time of year and collect your thoughts on what you are thankful for.

Salvation, my wife-Amy, my three kids-Lauren, Trevor and Chipper, my ministry here at J103, all of the luxuries God provides-a nice house, vehicles to drive, clothes to wear, food to eat, great friends and coworkers, my church family, our pets, (yes-I am thankful for our menagire of animals-just don't tell my wife!), good health, great memories of fun times, a great Christian heritage that was left for me and I am trying to pass on to my kids....I could go on for ever.

Tomorrow before you dive into the turkey and dressing, and before you head out to face the Black Friday/Thursday sales-stop and be thankful. Write a list-I think you will be surprised at how much you really do have to be thankful and once you begin to be thankful-you will often forget what you don't have.

Happy Thanks-giving!

Our J103 listeners bless us each and every year and we always hope to surpass the 1000 mark. We always start off trying to keep an accuate count so we know how many we are taking, but it never ends up that way.

We pull into the LifeCare Center drop off and the volunteers unload and carefully count how many we brought.

This year YOU gave 1,248 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child!!! You are so awesome.

Keep praying for each one of the over 42,000 kids that will receive a shoebox from the TN Valley. Pray that God will speak to each of them and they will accept the ultimate gift-Jesus!

Great Shot-Wrong Goal!

Earlier this week, I announced the first Ridgeland High School home game of the season. The Panthers were hosting the Warriors of LFO.

Everyone was excited and there were several underclassmen playing for RHS (because the football team is still playing in the playoffs and several of the varsity players play both sports.) The referee brought the two centers in to midcourt for the opening tip-off.

The ball went up, one of the players tipped the ball to their teammate who dribbled down court, around a couple of the opposing players, layed it up (beautifully I might add), and scored two points just like that in less than 5 seconds..........the only problem..........it was in the wrong basket. Great shot! Wrong Goal! The opposing team started with 2 unearned points.

Watching my kids play soccer for years I have seen several "own goals" where inadvertently you score in your own goal for the other team. It is embarrassing when it happens.

In the gym, everyone laughed (including the player who made the shot).

In life-I have ran the wrong way on the court and then managed to stop and look back to realize I was doing something good, just not what I was supposed to be doing.

A youth ministry friend of mine once said, "If the Devil can't make you bad-he will make you busy." I have been, to many times, to busy to see what God wanted me to accomplish.

I wanted to vote

I find it hard to believe that there are people who choose not to vote. I'm not talking about those who occasionally forget to go or have such a busy day that they can't get away to go to their polling place.

Since I turned 18 I have missed very few opportunities to vote. When you look at countries where the public opinion is not respected yet alone allowed to be shared it humbles me to think God has given us these freedoms.

Then there are those who have stood up and given their lives so I can have the freedoms we have because of our democracy.

Yesterday afternoon, after leaving the station and getting home, Amy and I went to vote. Our polling place was closed. We went to the downtown Ringgold Courthouse Annex and learned that we had nothing to vote on. It was only the city of Ringgold and the city of Fort Oglethorpe and not Catoosa County that had an election yesterday. Since we don't live in either of those cities limits we had nothing to vote on.

If you don't vote.....then you shouldn't criticize the decisions that are made.

Every year I hear of more and more people that have been impacted by Operation Christmas Child. In the Chattanooga Times Free Press this morning was an article on Yuri Lopez, a senior at Bryan College in Dayton. She was a Honduran orphan and received one of the shoeboxes when she was 6-years old. She said because of that box full of toys, personal hygiene items, and a note from the little girl who packed the box-the lonlieness she felt seemed to disapear and she knew that Jesus (and the family who sent her the box) loved her.

This story is really cool for me becasue.....Yuri plays soccer with my daughter Lauren at Bryan College. She is a little in size but has an incredible smile and heart.

Get your boxes for Operation Christmas Child from us here at J103, take your family and pack them, and then return them to us here at the studio no later than 12 noon on November 21. There is a Yuri waiting on you!

So Sore

This week, Amy and I started Matt Eubanks Boot Camp. The goal for me is to drop 30-40 pounds by New Years, (or at least tighten up a lot of what I've got.) Amy says (and I say she doesn't need it-good husband!) she wants to lose about 15 pounds.

The way we both feel right now, I believe we are well on our way. I can barely lift my arms above my shoulders. I am having a hard time reaching around and grabbing the ink pen out of my back pocket.

After training for and competing in the Body Building Contest 3 years ago, I am familiar with this pain, but it still aches and constantly reminds you that you are crazy for putting your body through that.

Even though we are sore-we don't stop. Anything that is worth something will always cost you something. If that means the two of us reaching our fitness goals-bring on the pain.......and the tylenol!

Yesterday evening, Amy and I took Oakley and went walking in the Chickamauga Battlefield Park.

I parked the vehicle, and got out. Amy took Oakley for a little potty break and I put my iphone in my sweatshirt pocket and hooked my headphones up.

Amy walked back over after Oakley was "finished," and we started walking, with me holding the dogs leash. Before I could reach into my pocket and turn my music on-Amy reached over and grabbed my hand. There we were walking along hand in hand, both of us with our earbuds in our ears, only I wasn't listening to any music!

It felt so good holding my wifes hand that I didn't want to let go and turn on my music. So I just walked for about a mile and a half with my earbuds on and no music....well.....except the music in my heart!

It is no secret that I am a summer boy! I love wearing shorts, swimming, being in the sunshine. For years Fall meant "the end of my favorite time of the year." I didn't look forward to Fall.

Now, my wife Amy's favorite time of the year is Fall! She loves it! The cooler days and nights, the beautiful leaves turning colors. She really looks forward to Fall.

God recently urged me to look at Fall differently. If Fall is my wife's favorite time of the year, and I love my wife, then I will want her to enjoy it to the fullest.

I am actually looking forward to spending as many fun-filled days as possible investing in my marriage and our relationship.

(Im still dreading raking up all the leaves!) :)

On a rainy Tuesday (today), it would be easy to walk into your place of employment and feel down, even at a Christian Radio Station.

Just this morning I mentioned on air that, like one of our Facebook friends, I was tired. I have had to deal with some mental and emotional stress this week that has worn me out. (Everything is totally fine now!, but it has me a little fatigued).

I had just finished the morning show and planning tomorrow's topics when I walked up to the front desk to drop off something. There was an older woman there and I asked her if someone was taking care of her. She got so excited and asked if I knew a song we played at 8:45 that morning. I took her in the studio and found the song on the computer and played it for her just to confirm.

It looked like she was having a revival service right there in the studio!! She was so happy, and she headed for the door-on her way to the nearest Christian bookstore to buy the CD.

On the way out she kept saying, "I can't believe I got to meet all of you! This is such a Godly Place! You are so blessed to work here!!!!!"

As I walked back to my office, those words rang true......I am so blessed to work here. I really am, but you know what? Where God has you working.......YOu are so blessed to work there too!

Have a great day!

I got fouled!

Yesterday afternoon for the first time. I got to watch Trevor play in a college soccer game. His Bryan Lions were playing the Bulldogs of TN Wesleyan. Near the end of the first half Trevor was dribbling the ball down field near the goal when he got fouled and went crashing down. He was ok, but it was enough of a foul to be called by the official. What that means is that since Trevor was fouled in the box, his team got to take a penalty shot......one person kicks the ball at the goal with no one defending except the goal keeper. One of Trevor's teammates scored tying up the game to what would be the final score 1-1.

This morning sort of the same thing happened on the air. I received a message from one of our listeners and partners who said they could not give during this Friendraiser and felt guilty about it. We shared their story (annyomously of course) on the air and many people gave on her behalf.

We all know people who are struggling financially. Will you step up to the plate and give on their behalf? You can by going to J103.com and clicking the "Donate Now" Banner, or call 877-262-J103.

Not many complaining about the rain

Because of the drought conditions and hot temperatures we have been experiencing in the TN Valley, the much needed rain has brought relief and from what I have heard-not many complaining.

In the past we have had our share of flooding in our area, and many fight the urge to complain and gripe.

Normally, running a race in the rain is kind of depressing, but I read reports from runners in the FCA 5K yesterday that said the rain brought cooler temperatures and made the run that much better.

I saw a news report yesterday about some of the area fundraising BBQ's that were making the best in the wet conditions, but no one was complaining and from the sound of their sales-people were still getting out to purchase some great pulled meat.

My family at home (which now consists of me, Amy and Chipper), stayed in for the most part and enjoyed relaxing on the couch and watching TV.

With my hectic schedule-no complaining here!

Why is it so hard to take a day off or a vacation day?

You work hard long hours, (I know-I put in 5 12 hour days a week), and you earn time off, or (as in this weekend) a holiday approaches.

What do you have to accomplish before you can, in good conscience, leave the office behind? If you are like me, you want to double check to make sure everything is lined up and ready to go.

If I didn't make sure everything was in place and running smooth in my workplace world, I would never be able to relax and enjoy some time off.

You may be someone who, after a couple of days off, return to a mountain of work that has accumulated and you have to work 10 times harder (and maybe longer) to get it all done.

I am reminded of a sermon Andy Stanley preached when I was a youth pastor. He said, "There is not enough time to get it all done!" He is right. You can never spend enough time with your family. You can never spend enough time at work, but you only have 24 hours each day and 8 of that is supposed to be sleeping and resting/recharging (I get by usually on 5 hours). What happens is-we have to cheat.

Where do you cheat? A wise pastor-friend once told me-"Ted, you are the only father your kids will ever have, and you should be the only husband Amy ever has. Every church you have ever served has had a youth pastor before you and when you leave they will find another-but you are the only one your family will have."

I'm not suggesting you slack off at work. On the contrary, I am a work-a-holic and belive to represent Christ we must work hard and meet our employers expectations, but.......we must make sure we are balancing our family time and not just giving them what is "left over"

Enjoy the Labor Day weekend, spend time with the family-You deserve it! And then.......Get back to work on Tuesday!!!!

Don't Know What to Do

I firmly believe that God loves the sinner but hates the sin.

On the morning show (and J103 as a whole), we want to discuss things that will uplift the body of Christ, and beyond that give you something to talk about with your families and coworkers. Topics like "did you see who got voted off of Dancing with the Stars" is prevalent in many a workplace. That is why we talk about some of those type things on the air. At the same time we try to stay away from those things that detract from the body of Christ.

I don't know what to do about this yet, (I am praying for direction). I watch Dancing with the Stars. To me if is really incredible to take someone with no dancing experience at all and transform them into ballroom dancers. It takes en extreme amount of patience and sacrifice. With that said, it is a dancing show and my votes are based on who the best dancers are. In past seasons I have not voted for my favorite because I didn't think they were the best dancer that night.

This seasons line up has just been announced. I have an issue with one of the cast-Chaz Bono. It is sad, that this daughter of Sonny and Cher felt it neccessary to have operations to change her gender. She/He is now an advocate for a lot of things that go against what God teaches in His Word.

Should I boycott the show this season and not watch? However, also on the show is Chyna Phillips of the Christian music duo Chyna and Vaughn. Once saved, Chyna has become a vocal spokesman for Christianity and family values.

Should I watch and talk about how she did each night or not talk about it because of Bono.

Don't get me wrong. I know God loves Chaz Bono. He just doesn't like his lifestyle, of course his "sin" is no different than any of my "sins" in God's eyes.

God, I seek your answer and peace.

I made another conscious effort to drop some weight. I have been in the gym for three days in a row now, cranking out an hour of cardio and about 45-60 minutes of lifting each day. I have been taking Chipper with me, (he didn't make it yesterday-he couldn't get out of bed he was so sore!)

Yesterday I finished my cardio and was walking towards the free weights area and i ran into a fellow "body-builder" I have known on a "friendly-wave and smile" basis for a couple of years. He walked up to me and said "Good to see you back in here.....looks like "mama" has been feeding you well."

In other words-Wow-you look like a Beached whale!

I was tellig my wife Amy about it and she got a little upset and mad about his comments. She said, "that was a terrible thing to say." I didn't take it that way. One of the things I feel God has given me is real tough skin. I take criticism well, and that comment yesterday at the gym didn't anger me instead it gave me a greater resolve to not skip any workouts and make sure I am skipping the food I don't need to eat!

Will see if he "eats those words" in a few short weeks.

Thank You God for the encouragement.

Yesterday Amy and I debated driving back to Dayton to watch Lauren's college team play the first game of the season. Last year they had defeated this same team 8-0 and it was questionable if any of the starters were going to get to play.

We went.......and boy was I glad we did! The starters did start. Lauren has earned her spot among the starters for the first time in college. So her first college varsity start, in the first half, she gets a good cross (that's soccer talk for "a ball kicked from one side of the field to close to the middle of the goal.) Lauren was there and headed (hit the ball with her head) into the corner of the net! It was beautiful!!!!

Lauren's first varsity start and she scores the first goal of the season for the Byran Lady Lions!!!!! I am one proud papa.

We also took with us Trevor's dog Oakley. Trevor met us there (he is proud of his sister too), and gave us a big hug when we walked up.

Chipper has his first Cross Country Meet of the season this afternoon.

The Fall has begun!!!!!!

God blessed us with a great day Saturday as we moved Trevor into his dorm at Bryan College. It ws a great opportunity to see how much he appreciated me and his mom. He posted on his FB that evening how much he loved and thanked us. He said he could not be where he is today if it hadn't been for us. That made us proud.

We also got to watch Lauren play in a scrimmage game against some alumni soccer players. Her team won and it was great to see her on the field doing what she loves. After the game and after Trevor's student/parent orientation we got to take Lauren to get something to eat. It was nice spending some time with her. She has matured so much.

After we dropped Lauren off back at her dorm and began to drive down the hill off of campus I took one last look at Trevor's window (I knew it was his because of the big inflatable hot dog and purple alien-I don't know-silly student thing I guess), I couldn't help but thank God for blessing me with three great kids.

I came home, and cleaned Trevor's room (it actually wasn't that bad), and cleaned the upstairs bathroom. I told Chipper when he got back from FCA XC camp that the bathroom upstairs was all his-that was the good news. The bad news? The bathroom upstairs is all his! That means he is in charge of cleaning it now. Don't want to clean it? Don't mess it up!

Chipper is going to get the feeling of being an only child for three years. God help us! LOL!

Tomorrow afternoon, Amy and I will have our first taste of what 3 years from now is going to be like.

In the morning we move Trevor into his dorm at Bryan College. Lauren has been there for two weeks. Chipper is leaving tonight for a FCA campout and won't be back until Sunday.

When Amy and I get home tomorrow afternoon we will be "child-at-home-less."

I have joked for years at how I am "looking forward to the empty nest." Amy I were married only 14 months before Lauren came along-so we never really had much time just as a couple. So there is a part of me that is looking forward to the two of us being able to focus on just each other.

But......

I have to admit, for the first time, that it is sinking in-our kids are growing into adults and moving on with their lives. We have tried (and failed many times) to raise our three kids up the way God would have us. We know that they are His kids and we were just entrusted to raise them.

Now we pray that they remember all God has taught them through us.

Oh, I forget.....Chipper will be back home Sunday afternoon, and will be there for at least three more years!

Thank you God for my kids!

I don't know why it bothers me but Saturday Amy and I drove by the first house we bought. When God moved us to the North Georgia/TN Valley area we first lived in the church's parsonage. After a year or so He led us to a beautiful home that was very-well taken care of by some friends from church.

We purchased it, moved in and made it our home for years. We have fond memories of that house. It is where we brought Chipper home from the hospital when he was born. I can still remember the large wooden stork I had placed in the front yard. Our kids had slumber parties, birthday parties, and baseball parties there. My Dad came and helpled me build a clubhouse for my kids to play in. We buried beloved pets in the back yard. I even remember me and the kids putting together a "time capsule" and burying it somewhere in the yard.

Amy put a lot into the flowers and landscaping. I loved our grass...It was zosia and like walking on carpet.

It was home.

God blessed us with the home we have lived in now for the last 6 years. It got to the point where that first house was to small for our needs, and we were so excited to make the five minute move. I have to admit though, because of all the memories and sentimental value that first house had it was a little sad to leave.

Fastforward to this past Saturday. Amy had driven by the house over the years and had noticed the new owners didn't spend as much time in the yard as we had. This Saturday it looked really bad. The grass was more than knee high. There were bare spots in the yard where they had parked their vehicles. There was a huge Bradford pear tree that had split and was laying in the yard. In fact, you could barely see the house from the street.

I managed to see a piece of paper on the front door. I got out and walked up onto the porch to see that the house was now abandoned.

It really upset Amy and I. I feel so bad for the owners who felt like they had to leave this house that was our home. When we sold it we both hoped they would take care of it love it and have a happy home like we had.

It is sad to see it in the current condition. I guess I am more sentimental than I thought.

I have to admit, it is going to be a little "different" calling the first Heritage High School Football Game tonight when school doesn't start for another couple of weeks.

I am loving the (return to) new school schedule-starting after Labor Day. I grew up in the day where Summer was from Memorial Day to Labor Day. It gave you a full three months of school.

I don't know why we ever started shortening the summers, (I know it has to do with someone's research stating that kids didn't retain much knowledge over the summer-and that may be true.)

There are many benefits, the way I see it, to a full summer vacation. I can imagine the millions of dollars it saves a school system because they don't have to cool the buildings for a complete month. I know that places that hire high school students for the summer really miss out if they go back to school before the summer starts.

The best thing about summer vacation for me was just chilling out! Sleeping in, going on family vacations, playing outside with my friends-recharging for the school year!

I hope we never go back to the longer school calendar!

Last week while on Staycation at home, I was pressure washing our fence. Amy looked under our back deck and asked if I could get rid of the two faded, algae covered doghouses that were left from a couple of previous pets.

I pulled the smaller one out. It is a two piece "normal doghouse" style house like you have seen at stores. I used the pressure washer and was amazed at how clean it got.

I then pulled out the bigger, heavier Doggloo type house. It is about the biggest doghouse I have ever seen of this type and it was nasty-dirty. It was literally green, brown and black.

I began to pressure wash it and was blown away that it was actually white beneath all of the filth. It then became a fascination with me to see how clean I could get it. It took about 45 minutes but it looks brand new. When I finished the doghouses and went back to the fence I noticed I had really small white flakes on my legs. It was pieces of fiberglass that the pressure washer had blown off of the doggloo while giving it a deep cleaning.

Our lives are like that. We carry around the filth of the world-our sins and failures. They discolor our lives and give us an appearance that we were'nt created to have.

When you give your life to Jesus, He uses His Holy Pressure Washer and removes all of that sin and shame. Sometimes it cuts deep-it has too because of how tight the sin is holding on-but it is neccessary.

Let God get a hold of your life-give your heart and life to him and see what He can do. That will get you "out of the doghouse"

Now if I could just get our two outside dogs into the doghouses!

Staycation=Rest and Relaxation

Update from my Staycation last week. First a good definition of a staycation: a period of time off from work where someone enjoys leisurely time at home. My wife, Amy's definition of a staycation: a period of time Ted has off from work where I can get all of the home chores and projects complete!!!! Just kidding (sort of)!

My week off from work was a great one. I did accomplish some projects that needed to be done: pressure washing both sides of our entire privacy fence-looks brand new now and not like an algae farm. Trimmed the Knock out roses in the front flower bed-they will really bloom now. Cleaned out old firepit and set it up with two new "temporary" chairs-(if you know any place I can purchase real aiderondike chairs let me know).

I did manage to sneak in some "down time" also. I didn't get out of bed until 8am at the earliest. That day I took Chipper to cross country practice and ran a mile myself. We went and saw a couple of movies, celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary with a gift card to Hennens, but the best part was being able to stay up late watching TV and hanging out with Amy and the kids and not worrying about how little sleep I was going to get because I was going to have to get up early.

I say all that to say-it's important to take some time off every once in a while and clear your head, but I am so thankful God has called me to join with you during your morning routine!

I feel, most of the time, I live in a kennel. I grew up with one dog. I love dogs, but I only believe a family ought to have 1 at a time. Take care of it, have it fixed, feed it, play with it, let it become a member of the family.

Well, my wife grew up in a home where dogs were not allowed, so now....she feels like she has to have all of them!!!! We currently have 1 Chihauaha, 1 Chug (Chihauaha/Pug mix) and it's offspring, and........6 month old........Oakley!!!

Oakley is a wimerrimer, and is all puppy! He is so playful and big.

This past weekend he has also been sick. Now to my wife's credit, she has taken the majority of the responsibility taking care of him, so she had to clean up a lot of doggy puke this weekend.

Just when I was sitting thinking about how it will be 10-12 years until all of the dogs in my house will pass on, Amy sends me the following picture....

My Opinion on the Casey Anthony Verdict?

Most of the United States and many places in the world are discussing the not guilty verdict of the Casey Anthony verdict. Most people think she did kill her 2 year old daughter Callie and got away with it.

Becasue of the laws of our land, (which protect us), she may have gotten away with murder, but a jury of her peers found her not-guilty. To find someone guilty you have to be able to prove beyond a "reasonable doubt" that they have committed a crime. That was not able to be done therefore she is can not be held accountable here on earth for those accusations. If she did get away with it then one day she will stand before God and answer those charges.

As I read God's Word, it is not my role to judge her. She was found "not guilty" by our courts, therefore I must treat her that way. To see the people outside the courtroom with signs that say "Baby Killer" and hurling threats to her, her family and the jurors to me is so sad.

I have to stop and think......As a follower of Christ how would God want me to treat her? Substitute her for the woman who was caught in adultry that was brought to Jesus-don't the rocks still hit the ground?

What should our action be? Prayer and forgiveness.....The Lord knows I need it regularly!

This weekend, my buddy Justin came over and helped me recast 3 of our Privacy fence posts. They had become loose over the years and especially after the April 27 Tornado.

As we pulled the three posts out of the ground we noticed that the amount of concrete was insufficient. To me it looked like the original fence installers had dug a 6 inch hole, mixed up a wheelbarrow of concrete and "dipped" the posts in it-like you would pretzels in chocolate. There was not much concrete anchoring the posts into the ground.

It reminds me of those who give their lives to Christ and then fail to spend time in His Word every day. You just don't have much anchoring your Christian life down.

Get into God's Word and go deep!

I am sahamed that I have not blogged since Memorial Day???? Wow! I've been sort of busy with JFEST and then Riverbend. My son Trevor graduated in there also. We've been a little preocupied.

I do want to share with you some of my thoughts about our minsitry at Riverbend. For years, we would cruise in, set up our booth and have a great time at Faith and Family Night. But each year when we would pull out of the Riverfront area late into the night, I was struck with the feeling that the Christian Radio Station needed to be there all week. So this year began that tradition.

We gave away J103 Koozies. That's right, those little neoprene sleeves people put their beers in to keep them cool and their hands dry and warm.

Why would a Christian radio station give away koozies??? Are we endorsing alcohol? NO way! What we were doing was serving those who were at Riverbend and showing them that we were not there to judge them but to love on them.

We had several opportunities each night to share the plan of Salvation using the Witness Wear Bands that were furnished by White Wing Christian Bookstore in Cleveland. Most people would try to stick their beer down into the koozie and then realize there was something in it. They would pull it out and put it into their pocket. Some would pull this little wearable track and ask us what it was. Then we would be able to share it with the 6-7 people gathered around.

Please pray for those who had seeds of Jesus Chist planted in their hearts. I am praying for a great revival!

Wow, it's been a few weeks since I updated my blog. I am so sorry. I was blessed to take a week of staycation (where I presure washed, sanded and helped paint our deck).

Saturday morning, my wife and I were at the Praters Mill Run for God 5K race. One of my rolls there that day was to cheer on each finisher as they approached the finish line. It was so inspiring to see all of the runner's faces as they rounded the corner and could see the "prize." Several threw their hands up in the air towards God and I could see them mouthing "Thank You" to our Heavenly Father who gave them the strength. I also loved seeing the family members and friends with cameras, video cameras-capturing the moment while supporting their loved one-who (for many) had just completed their first race. It made my week.

There are a lot of paralells between running a race and living for Christ. God gives us the strength to run every day. There are brothers and sisters in Christ cheering us on-providing encouragement. Don't forget that! You can do it!

You can also "do it" as far as running. At JFEST this year we have partnered with Run for God to bring you the Run for God JFEST 5K. Start "training" today. (And don't let the word "training" scare you.) My wife and I have joined the Run for God group at our church. Last night we completed the first "workout" Here is how it went: a brisk 5 minute warm up, followed by 60 seconds of jogging, then 90 seconds of walking, 60 seconds of jogging, etc. until we had been moving for 20 minutes. Then we had a 5 minute walk cool down.

See, you can do it! I encourage you to set a goal of running the Run for God JFEST 5K. It will change your life.

I was just taught a lesson by a 2 year old video clip

This morning in gathering the celebrity birthday announcements to share during they 9:00 hour (like I always do), I learned that Brittains Got Talent star from 2009 Susan Boyle is celebrating her birthday today. I watched the clip of when she first took the stage. Everyone, (me included), took one look at her and already we had a preconceived notion of who she was, a dumpy, nobody with bushy eyebrows. There was no way she was going to impress the judges, yet alone be any kind of a good singer. The audience chuckled, the judges rolled their eyes......until.......she began to sing. The audience errupted with applause, the judges were stunned and moved with emotion. I have to admit, I went through the same thing watching the video. I got goose bumps, and then I was convicted. God spoke to me and said, "Ted, how often do you judge like that? How many times do you look at others and allow preconceived thoughts and opinions to form before you give them a chance?"

I need to be careful! "Father forgive me."

Check out the video with this in mind and see if it doesn't move you too.

Cupcakes for $1

Yesterday my pastor, Dennis McNulty, preached on Jesus' parable of the servants who were entrusted with the talents. At the conclusion of the service the offering plate was passed again and this time EVERYONE was encouraged to take out one brand new $1 dollar bill. Young and old alike were encouraged to take our dollars and increase them by Easter Sunday morning.

My family (and Trevor's girlfriend) pooled our dollars and with the $6 Amy bought the ingredients and boxes and made spring cupcakes. We are selling them 4 for $4 in a nice gift box or .50 each. Chipper went to a couple of doors in our neighborhood and sold two boxes, I have sold two boxes and 6 individual ones so far. We have already trippled our initial "talent."

This is teaching my son Chipper (and the rest of us) the scriptures in a real applicable, relevant way, and it's fun too. One of our first customers nicknamed them "Jesus cupcakes" because of the initial "Jesus dollar." Remembering that is helping me fight off the temptation to sneak and eat one!!!!!!

Want a cupcake?

This morning I saw a web-news story from Japan that really touched my heart-strings. A reporter and his cameraman were in a devasted tsnumai stricken village. It was abandoned. There was trash and rubble everywhere, and in this little trash-strewn area were two dogs-one injured-both dirty, weather-weary and hungry.

As the reporter would try to get closer to the injured dog-the other dog would bark and walk towards the man as if to say, "Get away from my friend." The story has a happy ending-both dogs were rescued and are in an animal hosptal getting the medical care they need.

It reminded me of the Bible verse that tells us how Jesus is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

You are that kind of friend also. Last week in our Spring Shareathon we had nearly 600 listeners who became partners and pledged to support this ministry financially.

If you missed the chance to give these last few days you can log onto the homepage and make a pledge or call during office hours 423-892-1200 and give your support.

Thank you friend.

How important are Cheerleaders to sports?

I have always known that cheerleaders can impact the way a game turns out. When a crowd is fired-up and cheering their team on-that team plays with more intentsity.

Yesterday a cheerleader from my alma mater, The University of Louisville, almost impacted the game against #4 Pittsburg in a negative way.

My #16 UofL Cardinals were on the verge of upsetting the Big East leaders Pitt Panters. With less than a few seconds, one of the Louisville players (Kyle Kuric) got the ball and went down court to score making it a five point lead. The clock continued to run down and with .5 of a second left the cheerleaders began to celebrate on the court. One male cheerleader picked up the basketball and tossed it up into the air-prompting a delay of game techincal foul.

Pitt scored both of the free throws and had possession of the ball with .5 seconds on the clock. They inbounded the ball and made a full-court shot which missed.

Many people are calling for the male cheerleader's head. I like what UofL Basketball coach Rick Pittino said in his press conference-"It was an accident, a mistake, but he needs to learn the rules of Basketball."

I agree Coach Pittino-he made a mistake in the heat of the moment and I believe he has suffered enough-just don't let him near the ball! Go Cardinals!!!!

OK, I have never sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. The biggest venue I have ever sang it at was a Chattanooga Lookouts Game.

I have been singing the Star Spangled Banner since High School. I currently sing it al all Ridgeland and Heritage home Basketball and soccer games. I have messed up on the words from time to time.

The most humbling time I ever sang the National Anthem was at a Marine Corps JROTC ceremony. I sang it with tons of emotion and tried to make it as dramatic as possible. When I finished I was quite proud of myself. The Colonel walked over to me, and I thought I was going to get a big "Ata Boy!" Instead he looked at me and said "Ted, it took you longer to sing the National Anthem than it did to fight the war!"

That was an eye-opening moment from a man I highly repected. Since then, I have made an effort to sing it like it was written, like it was intended. It is one thing to add your own personal "flair" but you have to remember the most important part.....the lyrics and the melody.

Christiana Aguilera has an incredible God-given voice. I wish she was using it more for the Glory of God though.

We had some great discussion on Facebook this morning. It is apparent that good things and bad things can come from Facebook. I have seen families torn apart because of hurtful things said on the social network and yet I have seen people come to know the Lord through posts, comments, and videos.

One caller said it best when he said, guns don't kill people, food doesn't kill people. It takes someone to pick up the gun and do something horrific with it. It takes someone to pick up food and overeat for it to be harmful.

Facebook and other social networks are the same.......It can be addicting, or it can be controlled.

Hope you are listening to your family when they say, "Dad, will you go do..........with us today?" And then don't forget to sign off-(A lesson I have learned with my boys-if I walk away from the computer with my Facebook account opened-there is no telling what my status will say!)

I apologize for the way I have sounded the last two days. I don't feel half as bad as I sound though. Thanks for your prayers. I never get sick, so when I do-I can be a wimp thinking it is the end of the world. But to earn a living because of your voice and to then have that voice taken away or compromised for a little bit-leaves you feeling pretty useless! I know that is not true however-God is able to do exceeding more good thorugh me than I could ever do on my own.....So......sorry for the voice......what you hear.....is what you got......(hopefully for not too much longer though!)

Thank God for His Provision

Recently, my family has had over it's share of automotive difficulties. First, in August Lauren was getting ready to drive to Bryan College for the first time and we noticed that her transmission was leaking bad. We made a quick trade and she took our Kia sportage to school instead. We parked Lauren's Taurus in the garage until we could afford to get it fixed. We took off following Lauren to school loaded down with her clothes and things for the dorm. Pulling into the Bryan Campus (up hill) the Kia began running rough. We took it to a garage after unloading all of her belongings and had it tuned up.

About three weeks ago, Trevor borrowed my Durango and headed up to Murfreesboro for the finals of the Bash in the Boro Soccer Tournament. On the way back and heading to Bryan College for a college visit, the Durango began "missing" and the check engine light came on. We took it to the garage and received really bad news-the cam shaft was broke and it needed a new engine.

Amy and I prayed for a few days, laboring over what we were going to do. We didn't know where the money was going to come from. (Ok we knew that God was going to provide it-just didn't know how). Suddenly God reminded Amy about our retirement account. Bingo! There was the answer-we sold some stocks and are now getting a new engine for the Durango, got Lauren's car fixed and paid off the remaining balance we owed on it from the bank and are going to pay off our Lowes account balance.

God had provided for us once again! And really.....who needs to retire!!!

"There was something missing from my day yesterday" that was one of the comments that came in this morning while I was on the air. Many called in to say God answered their prayers by getting us back on the radio. One caller said her daughter was just not happy as they waited at the bus stop in the car. She tried different CD's but nothing felt right and helped her get her day started off the right way.

A brush fire atop Lookout Mountain near our transmitter site took us off the air yesterday. We are thanking God for our engineer, Sam and his team for their quick and tireless efforts to get us up and running again.

Another caller this morning said, "She belives God allows all things to happen for a reason." She went on to say that hopefully the day we were off would encourage everyone to be "One of a Thousand."

"One of a Thousand" is a vision to see 1000 people give $100 to J103 in the next two months to help us wipe out the budget need deficit that was created from our Friendraiser.

Will you be "One of a Thousand?" Log onto J103 and give now. You can break it up into 2-3 monthly payments if you need to.

Thank you for being "One of a Thousand."

Sad Afternoon

Yesterday afternoon I was with the Heritage High School Cross Country Team at the regional meet in Cartersville Gerogia. I was standing with the love of my life-Amy, our good friends Joe Thacker and Jim and Beth Bennett. Our oldest son, Trevor and their sons Jacob and Caleb have ran cross country together since the 6th grade. They have ran in the state championship meet the first three years of their high school career.

At the region meet the top 4 teams advance to state and the top 8 individuals runners go as well. Unfortunately the Generals missed 4th place by only 9 points. The place that each of the teams top 5 runners finishes is an individual score that is added to form the team score. (The first place runner gets 1 point for their team, the 54th runner gets 54 points for their team). The lowest score wins.

As we, parents were standing around after the awards ceremony announced our boys would not be making a trip to the state meet for their senior year-it finally sank in-this was the end of another era in our families.

We would never see these three friends run again on the same team.

It really was sad as we stood there on that crisp fall day and watched some boys celebrate and our boys shocked and dismayed.

I walked over to the guys and tried to console them by reminding them that three of the teams that beat them were new competitors to us due to the realigned regions in Georgia. Obviously my timing was bad because Trevor looked at me and said "Dad, don't talk to me right now." I gave him his space and Amy, Chipper (who ran very well too) and I headed home.

Trevor rode the bus home with the team and when he got home he walked over to me where I was lying on the couch, he bent down and hugged me and said, "Dad, I'm sorry for the way I talked to you-I was just upset." I told him I understood and not to worry about it.

Most of the boys, Trevor included, complained about running cross country all through middle school and high school. They said they were running only to keep them in shape for soccer (their first love). But now that it was shockingly over without that last trip to the state tournament-I think they realized that they had actually become runners-and loved it.

We wish the Lady Generals all the best as they go get to go to state (they finished 2nd in the region) and to the other teams representing our region. I already miss watching Lauren running and now will miss Trevor. We still have Chipper for 3 more years!!! (And, yes-he says he hates running too!-I will definately enjoy those last 3 years!)

Only a Mile and a Half....

Last week Justin, (our program director) and I were blessed to attend Momentum, the Christian Music Broadcasters Conference in Orlando. The conference was held at Disney's Beach and Yacht Club Resort. The resort is on Crescent Lagoon, and connects to the Boardwalk Resort-making a real nice running path with a beautiful view. 2 of the 3 mornings I got up early and ran the loop. Once I completed the run I knew it had to be a mile and a half long. I felt a great sense of accomplishment and was proud! (I have just gotten back into running.)

This morning we began our Friendraiser. A year ago J103 was in need of a miracle. The economy was at its worst, and we had just been forced to eliminate 20% of our staff. The future of J103, to us human folks, was uncertain. God responded in a huge way!!! Listeners responded and called in with urgency. We saw the need met in record time and with an overflow. It was incredible!

Fast Forward to this year-the economy is still sluggish but much better, and the current financial situation J103 is in is much improved. It appears that all of oru listeners realize that and are assuming the need is not as dire. Steve Green, our station mgr. explained it in a real way this morning on the morning show with me-He asked how would your family handle missing 2-3 paychecks? My family would be devastated. That is where J103 is if the $206,000 need is not met.

Now, don't get me wrong-we trust in the Lord fully! God raised up this ministry and has kept it alive and strong for 15 years. He will do it again. He will provide!

So what does "a mile and a half" have to do with our Friendraiser? When I finished the daily run I felt so good and a great sense of accomplishment, but I have to admit-when I found out it was not as far as I had thought I was a little disapointed. As I look at the pledges and gifts coming in today-it would be easy to feel a little disapointed (compared to last year), BUT, each gift is what is needed and what God has annointed. Some may think, "my gift is too small." There is no "too small." Just be faithful.

Will you "run the extra mile (and a half)" with us? Call 893-6767 or toll free 877-262-j103 or go to our homepage and click on the "Donate Now" Button. God Bless you!

Warning! Pink Flamingos on the way!!!!!

On this morning's show we were talking about fundraisers, and someone called in to tell us about their most successful fundraiser-the Pink Flamingos, (it figures that it was a youth pastor!).

I have had about 5 successful Pink Flamingo fundraisers in my career as a youth pastor. We never made less than $2,000 on each one.

Here's how it works: Simply take your church roll and divide it up into geographical areas with no more than 10 homes on each list.

Purchase a plastic, tacky pink flamingo lawn statue for each list. Take a saw and cut a little "door" in the underside of each bird.

Type up a letter that says basically, "You have been flamingoed! Quickly relocate this bird to the next name and address on the enclosed list. Scratch your name off the list, and the next time you are at "church" drop off a Flaimingo Relocation Fee in the Flamingo Box located in the lobby. Place this letter inside a ziploc bag and place inside the flamingo, and then under the dark of night, sneak into the first persons yard and stick the flamingo in the ground.

It is a great way for a congregation to have fun together, spend time as families "sneaking around town" and a great way to raise donations for mission trips etc.

If you have any other questions-just email me and let me know.

By the way, No flamingos were harmed in the execution of this fundraiser!

OK, so in the Gocke household, I have once again taken over the bills. Amy has done them for the last 3-4 years and with her going to work full-time she has run out of time to do them along with keeping the house up and taking the lead role dealing with the boys and their schedules.

For the last two weeks I have been sitting down, balancing the checkbook with the days receipts, and budgeting how we are going to pay all of the bills (with the added automotive repair expense).

I kind of enjoy doing it-trusting God to meet our needs, and doing our best to be good stewards of what He is providing.

But since I know the balance of the checkbook, I am not finding myself telling the boys "no" more often. I am also watching what we get at the grocery store a little more closer. I am limiting the times we eat out. All of these things Amy did (and well, I might add), when she was the one in the checking account drivers seat.

But now she says I am being crabby! I guess that is a reminder from the Lord to keep my head up and keep trusting in Him.

Speaking of that......God blessed my socks off this week by an annoymous gift from one of our listeners towards our automotive repairs. God is so good!

LIving without a cell phone

Do you remember the day when you didn't have a cell phone? Most students today do not. I can remember not having one. I remeber pay phones. I can remember sending youth groups out on photo-scavenger hunts where they had to stick their entire group inside a phone booth. My kids do not remember ever seeing a phone booth.

While I do not long for the days we did not have the convenience of picking up the cell phone and calling for assistance when you are broken down on the side of the road, or when I need to get a hold of my kids or wife suddenly. What I have had to train myself is to "remain in the now." When I am carrying on a face-to-face conversation with someone they are the most important thing I have going on at the moment. If my phone rings-I have to fight the urge to take my attention off of the person I am communicating with to look and "see who's calling." At that moment-what does that say to the person who has had my attention. If I answer the phone it says, "Hold on, this is more important." If I resist the temptation to look and just let it go to voice mail, then I am saying, "You are the most important thing to me right now."

I feel pretty strongly-that is what Jesus would of done! He would of just let the call go to his voice mail!........excuse me, I have a call! Just kidding.

I know you have heard people who know and trust the Lord say about those who don't, "I don't know how they survive this situation...."

Well, to be honest-I truly don't know how they do it either.

My family has been blessed with 5, yes 5 (a whole fleet) of used vehicles. Sometimes I begin to feel guilty. I have been to Jamaica and seen family after family that don't have the first one, and yet all three of my kids have one as do my wife and I.

Now, before you jump to conclusions-these are all "pre-owned" vehicles. One of our vehicles came from the J103 auction (the Kia), and the car Trevor is driving was purchased this summer for $600. We have never purchased a brand new vehicle, which saves us money, but can also cause headaches when they start to break down.

Which brings me to the point of this blog post-Out of our 5 vehicles, there is only one currently with no mechanical issues. Three days before Lauren left for Bryan College, she came driving back into the neighborhood leaving a trail of transmission fluid. It is now parked in our garage until we can save up enough money to get it fixed. She took the Kia to Bryan, and it did fine until she began going up the hill into the campus-the check engine light began flashing. Wanting our daughter to have a dependable car we had her take it to a great mechanic there in Dayton, (he listens to J103!!!!), It is currently being repaired with new spark plugs, wires, boots and thermostat.

The "check engine" light has been on in my Durango for about a week and a half-taking that to Advance Auto Parts to get checked out today. Yesterday we were waiting on the boys to get home from cross country practice and Trevor called saying his Nissan just died. I took off, we got it started and home. I did what little automotive I knew to do (and that was very little) and we got it going.

Through it all-I have a peace that, even with a real tight budget-God is the Great Provider! "I don't know how people without that trust in Jesus would handle stress like this?"

Have you had a struggle you went through where you thought the same thing?

I used to love trading Baseball Cards as a child. I can remember four or five of "us boys" hoping on our bikes and riding to the local drugstore or convenience store to buy our .25 packs of baseball cards. We would actually eat the hard stick of gum and then sit down and look who we had. Of course the goal was to get the entire set of that year's cards. (I never was successful in doing that.) I can remember the excitement of finding one of the all-star cards, or my favorite-Pete Rose.

We would sort our cards by teams. And you would always keep your "doubles" together in case a trade became possible.

This morning on the show I played the "Trading Game." It was all for fun and no items really changed hands. I started with my aluminum J103 water bottle and ended up with a complete set of United States Refrigerator Magnets. Along the way I traded an airconditioner and a basektball goal. It was a lot of fun.

What have you ever traded? As a child? As an adult?

Sunday evening Amy and I sat down and looked over the summer calendar and our family budget. July 28th we will celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We had hoped to head to the beach with the family, (before Lauren goes off to college), and I was looking forward to seeing the Space Shuttle launch. That is one of the things on my "bucket list" and their are only two more scheduled Space Shuttle launches left.

We learned that after figuring in the part of Lauren's tuition we were responsible for, that there would be no money for a vacation. I will admit that I was disaopointed.

Monday morning, still feeling sorry for myself, I asked all the listeners to call in with their "realistcic vacations they would go on if they could afford it."

The first call brought everything in perspective.......a father of an 11 year old daughter who had been fighting cancer for a couple of years called in and said he would love to go on a vacation anywhere with his daughter, because they were calling in Hospice care for her that day. Wow! Talk about a sobering call. God convicted me that I had no reason to complain or sulk because I couldn't spend a few days at a beach. I am so blessed.

I prayed for that dad,his daughter and their family and encourage you to do the same. If you do get to take a vacation with your family this summer-thank God for ALL of your blessings-not just the beautiful beach or time away.

Wednesday, I was invited to come and speak to the students of Heritage High School and their FCA luncheon.

God gave me the words to remind the students to not go through this most important weekend on "auto-pilot."

We have a lot of traditions don't we? One of my families traditions is to go to Provinos on one of our family members Birthdays and eat so many garlic rolls that we almost get sick! Churches have tons of traditions also.

Traditions are not bad in and of themselves. Traditions cause us to pause and remember why something is so special. It's when we just go through the motions and forget the reason for the tradition that we get tripped up.

Jesus paid the ultimate price for our salvation and eternal life, (which begins when you ask Jesus into your heart), by dying on the cross for our sins.

He made the decision to do that while in the Garden of Gethsemane. The word Gethsemane means "oil press." There was an oil press, no dout, in the garden there. It is what they did in the Garden-pressed the olive juice out of the olives from the trees.

Jesus, while in the Garden was "pressed out" for us. Through, blood, sweat and tears-Jesus set his face like flint for the cross. It was there He told His Heavenly Father "Not my will but your's be done." God's will meant He would have to endure the most painful, excrutiating, hideous, grotesque death imaginable. But the thing that caused Jesus's heart to be "depressed unto death" was not the physical pain caused by nails, thorns, or whips. The thing that scared Jesus most was the instant all of the sin of mankind would be thrown on Him and when His Heavenly Father, God, would have to turn away from Him.

Jesus did it all for me, and you!

Happy Easter!
I will be off next week for Spring Break.
See you Soon

The Ups and Downs of Parenting Teenagers

Last night, Amy and I experienced some of the emotional ups and downs of parenting teenagers.

You have heard me many times talking about Lauren and Trevor playing soccer for Heritage High School, and how Chipper has just picked up the game of tennis and is playing for Heritage Middle School.

On Monday afternoon I was talking to Chipper about school and what was going on. He said he was looking forward to his Tuesday\'s tennis match and really hoped he won his first game. He didn\'t mean match-he meant his first win of a game in a match. Hold on to that thought.

Tuesday night was also a big night for our oldest two, Lauren and Trevor. Their soccer teams were playing the Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe Warriors. Lauren and Trevor and many of their teammates played for LFO two years ago, before Heritage High School opened. They still have friends that play for the warriors. Lauren\'s HHS team is undefeated this year, Trevor\'s HHS team is doing very well and could possibly be a #2 seed in the region meaning we would host the region crossover game on the way to the state tournament.

Last night was also \"senior night\" where they recognize the senior soccer players in a nice ceremony between the games.

Lauren\'s team won 2-1, and then Chipper arrived from his tennis match, (normally Amy or I would of been with Chipper but since it was senior night we both had to be there). He walked into the pressbox where we were and said, with a smile on his face....\"I won a game!\" (He lost the match-but won a game!)

We were riding the \"high\" on the emotional roller coaster. Until.....

Trevor\'s team lost a very physical game.......the \"low\" of the roller coaster.

Want to know the good thing about Roller Coasters? When you go down, you have to come back up. I am just so thankful that God is our safety bar holding us down in the ride of life.

My oldest two children, Lauren and Trevor, are great athletes. They excel in cross country and soccer. Chipper is my youngest child. He played his share of baseball and soccer growing up, but never really "got into it" like his brother and sister. In recent years he has gotten a little too comfortable behind the X-Box and TV. My wife, Amy and I have tried to encourage him to get outside and "do" something. We forced him to run cross country this year for Heritage Middle School, and although he only qualified to run in one race, he enjoyed it.

About a month ago, a good friend of mine, Kevin Donovan, ( the tennis pro at the Chattanooga Raquet Club in Hixson) called me and said he had an opening for a lesson and wondered if Chipper would want to give it a try. Against Chipper's initial desire, we went. Kevin was great-he patiently introduced Chipper to the basics of tennis. When the 30 minute lesson was over he presented Chipper with a raquet and a bunch of balls to practice with. Chipper was hooked!

The Heritage Middle School Tennis team is a no-cut team, meaning that anyone can come out and play. Chipper has been playing doubles. He hasn't won a game or match yet, but has been enjoying it.

For the first time, I was able to go and watch him play. He played in a singles match against a much more experienced McCallie Middle School boy. Chipper, again lost, but had fun. While I was watching him, I had to fight the urge to "get on/coach" him from the sidelines. In my opinion, he wasn't doing any of the things that Kevin had taught him in the lesson. I found myself biting my tongue. God told me-"Ted, now is not the time to coach-but to just sit back and encourage your son." So I did. It was another one of those times that Chipper bonded. (I will get him to Kevin to do the coaching!)

Lost a Brother-saw a brother this week

This week started out pretty emotional. A "Giant of a man" Jeff Sims passed away last Friday from a massive heart attack, while he was working on the family farm with his dad, brother and farmhands. Jeff leaves behind his beautiful wife, and three kids (16, 13, 9). His mother and father, as well as siblings, grandmother, aunts and uncles, and it seemed like more than 3/4 of Catoosa County are greiving along with them.

Jeff coached little league baseball with me for years. I was the youth pastor at Burning Bush for years and we got along great! He was still impacting young lives today!

I was asked by his wife to sing at the funeral. I was honored to do so.

Yes, this week, even though I know I will see Jeff again in Heaven, was really sad.

Last night-God reminded me, (again) that He is in control. He sent my youngest brother on a business trip to visit the Roper Plant in Lafayette. Since he was here, I picked him up and he got to go to my oldest two kids soccer games and out to eat with the family. It was great to see Jonathan!

Isn't God just like that?.......when we need Him most-He is always there!

Get your attention? Now know this, I did not lose my salvation. In fact, I believe I can not lose my salvation. Jesus Christ died for my sins on the cross. I accepted Him into my life as Lord and Savior, and he came in and set up shop.

But I did lose a little silver "stone" with the name "Jesus" inscribed on it. Someone gave it to me at Christmas time and I was instructed to keep it in my pocket as a constant reminder that my Savior is in my life all day long. I had kept it in my pocket every day since Christmas time.

The good news is.....I found Jesus.....this morning in my pants pocket.

I am so thankful to Jesus for all He has done and continues to do in my life. We had one of those "Thankful" moments last night when Lauren received a call from the Academic Dean at Bryan College informing her she had won the Dean's Scholarship competition and along with it the $7,000 scholarship. Thank you Lord for being in control of my life.

Have you found Jesus?

Serious Coaching error

I can't tell you how many times I made coaching errors while leading my boys Little League Baseball teams. There were times where I screwed up the lineup and put boys where they shouldn't have been. There were times when I would send my boys stealing a base and they would get thrown out. One game I remember clearly was when Chipper was about 7-8. It was still coach pitch and I was pitching. Chipper was in the batter's box and I pitched one right down the middle where he could hit it. Hit it he did-hard! Would of been an extra base hit for sure......the only problem.....I couldn't get out of the way fast enough. The ball hit me and it was declared a foul ball. The next pitch-he swung and missed. Another time I remember sending a player from third base to home to "win the game." I wish! He got thrown out. We lost. The boys were disapointed, until I handed out the juice boxes and snack crackers and a game ball. All was well in the universe then.

I don't think there are enough juice boxes or snack crackers in the world to make things right in the Netherlands. Yesterday the Dutch speedskater was just a few laps away from the Gold Medal. It wasn't even close. In this event two skaters skate for 25 laps, (a long race), every once in a while they switch lanes to make sure both competitors skate an equal distance. The Dutch coach, just seconds away from seeing his athlete win Gold motioned the skater to switch lanes-the only problem? It wasn't time for him to change lanes....resulting in a disqualification!

This skater not only lost a medal in the Olympics but about $500,000 in bonuses he wold of received from the Netherlands Olympic Committee. Ouch. He was not happy. He threw his glasses across the ice, shook off the physical touches of apology from the coach.

Sports and Athletic Competition is full of setbacks and disapointments. Juice box anyone?

It is always exciting to have Joe "Dixie" Fuller join us in the studio to announce who is going to be headlining the Faith and Family Night at Riverbend. This year, Dixie announced, is going to be Third Day!

I had the opportunity to share with Mac Powell after Winter Jam in January about how special Faith and Family Night is. We wanted them to know that it was not just an ordinary concert, but the majority of the audience could be unsaved. He really appreciated getting that information and said they would design their concert set with that in mind. Begin praying now for multitudes to give their heart and lives to Christ at Riverbend!

I also love it when the Riverbend Faith and Family Night Announcement is made because it means that summer is on the horizon.

Our JFest lineup is also about ready to be announced. Keep posted. You will hear it on the air as well as here!

Deceased Dog and a Lesson from God

Yesterday afternoon I received several phone calls and text messages from my wife Amy and our son Chipper. I was in a meeting and couldn't answer my phone for about 30 minutes.

When I was able to use my phone I learned that one of our family pets had passed away.

"Brownie" was a stray dog that "found us" about 6-7 years ago. He wandered into our yard in a neighborhood we lived in. He was a real beautiful brownish-red dog with a lot of life. He and Chipper hit it off right away. Brownie loved chasing balls and running back and forth.

Brownie was already an adult dog when he "adopted" us, so he was around 12-13 years old.

Tuesday night Chipper went out to feed the dogs, (we had two outside dogs), and he came back in and said, "Dad, I think something is wrong with Brownie. He won't come out of the doghouse."

I went back out with Chipper and took the top off of his plastic doghouse. Brownie raised up his graying head and just looked at me. We pet and rubbed him and he licked our hands, and put his head back down. I told Chipper to get him some food and water and put it in his house where he could get it. I told my son that Brownie was not feeling well. I knew that Brownie's days were probably numbered.

Chipper came home from school yesterday afternoon and went outside to check on him. Sure enough-Brownie had passed away.

I got home and talked with Amy and Chipper about what to do with his body. I was hoping that Chipper would be fine with wrapping up his body and disposing of him in the garbage/county landfill. Chipper said he would rather have him buried in the back yard.

So, begrudgingly, I grabbed a couple of shovels and we went into the back yard to dig a good size grave for this beloved family pet. Did I mention I live in Georgia? The ground wasn't nice, soft, and moist soil. It was good old Georgia Clay and rock. And I wasn't "digging it."

Several times I tried to talk Chipper out of burying him in the backyard and just disposing him in the garbage, and then Chipper said, "Dad, I am so glad we are burying Brownie in the backyard so I can come out and spend time with him. He will also be able to be in the backyard he played in." As a lump rose in my throat, God woke me up and made me realize that I was not burying a dog-I was bonding with my son.

The rest of the "funeral service" was a lot different. We talked about what a good dog Brownie was, how much fun Chipper and the rest of the family had with him. When we finished putting Brownie "to rest," Chipper had a sense of relief. We had a great time together. We made a memory yesterday that Chippper and I will remember forever.

God fogive me for all the times I tried to take the easy road and sacrificed moments I could of spent with my wife and kids learning more and more about them and how God desires for us to grow closer to each other and to Him.

Rain Rain Go Away.....

The weather is probably what most people complain about the most.
As I am here in the studio this morning it is raining pretty hard but you won't hear me complaining.

I don't think it is a secret that I am not a big fan of cold weather. I would rather be sitting on the equator in the middle of the summer than to be cold.

God teaches me continually through weather that He is in charge, and I must worship Him no matter what David Karnes says the weather is going to hold. You see David and I have both talked about how God is in control of the weather, David just shares what the weather is going to be and what it is.

God says we are to praise Him in ALL circumstances-Rain or Shine! I heard a sermon recently about Jesus sleeping in the boat during the storm when the disciples were terrified. You see the disciples knew the sea-they knew how dangerous the storm they were experiencing really was, (or so they thought). While they are panicing what is Jesus doing? He is sleeping, and not just sleeping-He is in deep sleep! Dream Sleep. When they woke Him, he did not join in the hysteria-He simply stood up and commanded the storm to stop......and it did!

Then the disciples were in awe! And I bet they worshipped then. But we need to be like Jesus-and not sweat the small stuff.

Rain Rain Go Away.....but if you don't......I'm still praising anyway!

It was a chilly night in February, close to Valentines Day. I had gotten out of class in the afternoon and drove 5 hours to the Southern Chicago Suburb and picked up my then girlfriend Amy. We turned right around and drove back to Louisville, crossing the river after midnight. Lousiville has a beautiful riverfront area called the Belevedere. It is a huge pavilion complete with fountains, wading pools, landscaping and a sweeping view of the Ohio River and behind the skyscrapers of my home city.

I pulled over and walked Amy up the sidewalk to the view of the river. It was then that I learned the Belevedere was under a reconstruction. There were piles of dirt, excavators, porta-potties, construction fencing all over the place. So much for "picture perfect."

I led Amy to a bench, knelt down, apologized for the not so romantic surroundings, pulled out the engagement ring and asked her to be my wife.

She said yes! That was almost 20 years ago. I have loved being married to Amy. There have been incredible times, and not so incredible times, but through it all I know that the young lady I married 20 years is the perfect companion that God prepared for me.

After sharing that story this morning, we began getting phone calls from others sharing their proposal stories.......,one listener in Cleveland's husband actually proposed at the same place I did!

Share with us here your proposal stories!

We were sitting at the supper table yesterday afternoon when Trevor got a text from one of his good friends. His friend's dad is one of the decision makers in Catoosa County Schools. The text simply read two words that all kids long for.......No School!

I had Trevor immediately confirm the news before I called Brett and Steve at the radio station. It was confirmed-because of the forcasted school and possible hazardous conditions they cancelled school.

Now as a partent, I would rather know before bedtime that the kids didn't have school, so they wouldn't have to get up early in the morning to find out the news, but "are you kidding me?" It was warmer this morning than it was all week! It just started snow flurrying at lunch time.

When I was a kid, (I know-my kids will tell you in the dark ages, when we had to walk 5 miles up hill in the snow with no shoes, up hill both ways), we hardly ever had school closed. In Jefferson County, (Louisville KY), we were always the last to get out. All of the other counties around us would get out, but not us! And on the few times we did-it wasn't until Wayne Perky on 84 WHAS told us at 5am!

Don't get me wrong. If I was a student, I would be rejoicing big time for the schools being closed.

I honestly respect the decisions our school systems make. It proves they have the best interest and safety of our students at heart when they make those decisions.

But man, is it a long list to read in the mornings!

With the weather forcast the way it looks now-it appears I will sleeping here at the station tonight to make sure I am ready for you guys in the morning.

Be careful!

As I sit here in the office this rainy Friday afternoon, I am thinking about the three kids God has blessed me and Amy with.

Lauren, a senior is making plans for college. As a dad, I am going to miss her as she goes off to school, but I am so thankful for the young lady she is becoming. She is proud of her faith and I know will have little problem standing up for what is right.

Trevor, a junior, is working hard and setting a good example as a Christian young man. The principal at Heritage Hight School, (where my two oldest attend), was bragging on Trevor the other day. It seems Trevor is one of a couple students that are taking care of the morning announcements. (Wonder where he gets that from?) Trevor has his sites on a career with the secret service. He recently was allowed to "train" with a local SWAT team and was invited to come and spend some time with Sheriff Tim Goble, (who served in the secret service for a number of years and protected three Presidents.)

Chipper, an 8th grader, is........Chipper! He makes us smile and roll our eyes all the time. He is working hard in school and, (even though has struggled in some of his classes), is making all A's and B's.

Two days after Christmas I am taking the boys on a ski retreat with the student ministry of Burning Bush Baptist in Ringgold. This will be Chippers first time skiing, and I am looking forward to teaching him and spending time with my two sons.

Lauren is going to have some "special" time with Amy.

As this year comes to a close, and the season is really hectic, stop and thank God for those blessings in your life.

I am also thankful for my wife Amy's pecan tarts, white trash/chocolote chex mix, and chocolate covered peanut butter balls, but dont' tell anyone!

Well, the last week and a half have been really crazy for me and my family.
Let me let you into our life in order to prove a point: Thursday after the am show my wife and I headed up to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. We checked into the All Seasons Hotel in Pigeon Forge and walked/shopped Gatlinburg. It was beautiful! We ate at the Applebarn, (delicious!) and went back to the hotel to turn in early. Friday morning I was up at 4am-at Dollywood for the morning Show at 5am. Broadcast from 5-11am. Went back to the hotel and picked up Amy and hit the Outlet Malls of Pigeon Forge for about 5 hours, back to Dollywood for the afternoon show, drove back home-Went to bed, got up for the J103 pancake breakfast from 5am-10am, then went and broadcast from the Antique Road Crew remote in Cleveland, came home and went on the TN Vally RR Dinner Train with our winners, and got home at about 11:30pm.

Whew! Now here comes the point. As supportive parents we try to be at all of our three kids activities, games etc. This weekend Trevor had a select soccer tournament in Atlanta. With all we had going on-there was no way we could make it there for Saturdays two games. We planned on going Sunday morning (8am game-in Atlanta!) After the long 48 hours we got home Sat night exhausted, so I texted Trevor and asked if he would mind if we didn't make the trip Sunday morning. He said "No problem Dad, I understand and I am having a great time." So we planned on sleeping in and putting up the Christmas decorations outside, (after church of course).

We received a text from our good friend Joe, (his son Jacob is Trev's best friend and team member). They had won the game that morning, (making them 3-0 for the tournament), and would play in the championship game at 2:30.

Guess what Amy and I did........That's right-we drove to Atlanta, watched Trevor's team win the championship and came back home!

Amy summed it up on our way down to Atlanta-"You know, we won't have these days too much longer." She's right. Lauren is a senior, Trevor a junior and Chipper will be a freshman next year. Keeps things in perspective! Have a Merry Christmas with your family!

I have to admit-I underestimated the J103 audience! I set the goal for our Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes far to low-I wondered if we could see 500 boxes come in for us to deliver to the Life Care Center Drop Off Center in Cleveland. The weekend before we lost count, literally. People began dropping off the boxes and they were placed inside our prize cruisers at remotes etc. When we got to Cleveland-we had no real idea of how many you had donated. I had a good idea that we had surpassed the 500 number. The J103 van could not fit another box inside. The prize cruiser was filled, and the trailer was half way full. I asked the volunteers to count the boxes for us as they unloaded them. When they were done.......925 BOXES!!!! Thank you! Each of those boxes represents a child that will be presented with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Please pray that each of those boxes will not only bring a smile to the face of that child, but will enable their heart's door to be opened and Jesus woujld take up residence. Their entire family and village can be changed because of these Miracles in a Shoebox!

Yesterday's Day of Giving and Sharing was so fun. I look forward to the Day of Giving each year. It is so exciting to see the studio phone lines jammed full of listeners trying to get through to share what God has done in their lives and of course to win the multitude of giveaways we had. You again blessed this ministry incredibly by calling in telephone central and gave over $10,617.00. Thank you for your faithfullness once again for this ministry.

I am excited about the next week or two. Tomorrow morning after the morning show my wife, Amy and I are going to be heading up to Dollywood to get ready to broadcast the morning show from there Friday morning and that afternoon's remote. After the remote on Friday we will head back so we can be ready for Saturday's J103 Pancake Breakfast with Santa at the Acropolis 6-9am. You can still get your tickets for this wonderful family event.

Next Wednesday we open the doors of Metro Tab for our J103 Christmas Present to YOU! A Free Concert with Mark Harris! Hope to see you there!

What a Blessing you are!

We have been so blessed this week by a couple of incredible gifts towards our ministry.

The first is the gift of shoeboxes. I am in awe of the hundreds of these boxes full of toys, school supplies, personal hygiene items and various other things children all over the world will love. I can't wait to hear the final total today as they are unloaded in Cleveland. Will we exceed our goal of 500? I am quite confident we will. Listen this afternoon for the total!

The Second blessing we received was from the student ministry from Noble Fellowship Church in LaFayette. Saturday they came to the studios so I could give them a tour. They had brought with them a little orange M&M's mini container. Inside was not M&M mini's but a check for $420.00. They had passed out the little candy containers to their congregation and asked them to fill them up with quarters and turn them in for J103. They collected $420.00.

Thank you so much. It reminded me of the faithfullness of God. In August we weren't sure how we were going to stay on the air. You stepped up to the plate and blessed this minisry with your gifts and offerings.

As it stands today we are meeting budget each month, however we still have a deficit we must wipe out before the end of December. Our Day of Giving could be the day this happens. Please pray for next Tuesday, Dec. 1. Call in your testimonies to 559-1234. Let everyone know the "gifts" God has given you through J103. We want to share them on the air during the Day of Giving and Sharing.

God Bless you! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Operation Christmas Child!

it blesses our souls to see the Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes being delivered here to J103.

Monday is the deadline and I am praying for 500 shoeboxes that we can take up to the LifeCare Center in Cleveland when we do the remote Monday. As of right now we have 46 boxes that have been dropped off. That leaves 453 to go! Wow! That seems like an impossibility...........except....

We just received a call from Chattanooga Christian Middle School saying 200 boxes are on the way. I am picking up some this afternoon from Boynon Elementary School, tomorrow from Whitfield Academy, and I have a couple churches who's boxes are going to be included in our trip to Cleveland.

We still have a ways to go. Will you help us out? I have stacks of the Operation Christmas Child "How-to" brochures in the lobby here at J103. The brochures give you ideas on how to pack your shoe box. It also reminds you to put the $7 per box to help with shipping, and it has a label that you can choose between a girl and a boy and a little box to check which age group your box is most appropriate for.

Samaritan's Purse will place a Children's book that shares the plan of salvation through Jesus in each box.

Hundreds of children, their families, and in some cases their entire villages are being won for the Lord! That is huge! And it starts with something so small.........a shoebox!

Remember-the deadline is Monday-Nov. 23rd at 1pm. Make your box one of the J103 boxes.

Don't get me wrong, I love Christmas! Celebrating the birth of our Savior is one of my favorite times of the year. I just always feel guilty shopping, or decorating before we take that incredible day this month to "Thank" God for all of our blessings. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays also.

As a child, my three brothers and I would get up and watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade-anticipating the arrival of Santa Claus at the end. Doesn't that teach us something? Santa waited until the appropriate time-the end of the parade-to make his appearance.

After the parade-we would get dressed and head to my Aunt Virginia and Uncle Charles where our very large extended family would gather, (My Aunt Virginia was my Grandpa Wiley's sister. They had ten brothers and sisters-I was blessed with a lot of aunts and uncles and tones of cousins!) At Aunt Virginia's we would eat a huge feast and spend time playing games like Candyland, Trouble-with the "pop-a-matic", and Sorry. After dinner we would always go across the street to the old school and play hide-and-seek or football. It was a blast.

The day after Thanksgiving was when we officially kicked off the Christmas season. There were no Christmas trees up, no lights turned on-until the day after Thanksgiving. The only hint that Christmas was coming was the fact that the Sears and JC Penny's Christmas Catalog's had come in October.

That's how it should be! Remember to focus on Thanksgiving and counting all of our blessings (at least for the next two weeks.)

According to the rules of the "Morning Show with Ted-Home Edition" You can go ahead and hang up your Christmas decorations-just don't light them up until the day after Thanksgiving!

Lessons from the Hospital Waiting Room 2

Last week, while sitting in the Hospital Waiting Room waiting while my mother-in-law was in surgery, God really spoke some valuable lessons and truths into my life.

My mother-in-law had just come successfully through the surgery. After a stay in recovery they moved her up to her room. It was a beautiful part of the hospital I had never been to. The Mary Ellen Locher Cancer Floor. It was really nice!

They were getting Amy's mom situated in her room, her sisters and dad were with her, so I remained out in the hall.

The surgeon had just delivered the news that the tumor they removed from my mother-in-law was twice the size they had thought, and the cancer had spread which would require chemo and radiation therapy. Not the news we had hoped for.

As I was sitting there, I recognized a friend of mine coming out of the room next door. I could tell something was causing him and his family sadness. I learned that his mother-in-law was about to leave this world and join Jesus in Heaven. She had battled cancer for some time. She did go home to be with the Lord in the next few minutes.

What was the lesson-God showed me that He is in control. Things could always be worse (at least that would be what the majority of the world thinks). Going home to Heaven is the best thing that could happen to someone-but you know what I think. For the family the new seperation from their loved one was sad.

My wife, kids, inlaws and I still have time to spend with my mother-in-law. What are we going to do with the remainder of that time? How much are emphasis are we going to put on serving the Lord together by the way we express our love?

Sitting in a hospital can be very eye-openening!

Please continue to pray for my mom-in-law and family.
Thanks
Ted

Yesterday, I sat for most of the day and waited. I waited on the results of my mother-in-law's surgery. She had been diagnosed with breast cancer two weeks prior and was having a mascectomy.

As I sat in the waiting room at Memorial Hospital, I read, did a little work on my computer, tried to check my facebook, (apparently blocked at the hospital!), and spent a lot of time in prayer.

God did answer our prayers. Amy's mom came through surgery fine, and was really alert last night when we got to finally see her in a room. The results-not what we had hoped for-the tumor was twice the size the doctors anticiapted and the cancer has spread. She will now face chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Sitting there with Amy, her dad and two sisters, I could hear them ask the same questions that I had heard many yesterday mutter in that waiting room full of anxious and worried families....."How will they be able to deal/handle this...."

God gave me a word......we, as believers, and followers of Christ, shouldn't say "How will......" but rather......"Just will....."

How Will you handle chemotherapy.....No....through Christ we Just Will handle chemotherapy.

How Will I handle this job loss?.......No......through Christ we Just Will handle this job loss.

How Will I handle this disapontment?......No......through Christ we Just Will handle this and every disapointment and challenge.

The first of, what I am sure will be many, lessons God is teaching me in the Hospital Waiting Room.

Alright, JFest has celebrated 11 years of music and ministry. Last year for the first time we moved this incredible festival, that has seen hundreds of people give their lives to the Lord, to Abba's House due to the economy and the cost saving/risk eliminating(rain) measures.

We have basically heard two different types of comments:
1. I miss Camp Jordan and being outside-it does not feel like a
festival-we want grass under our feet!
2. We love the air conditioning and the nice restrooms of Abba's
House.

We are getting close to making the decision on JFest 2010. What do you think? It is your festival! You have made JFest a huge success and fantastic family tradition to kick off the summer each year. Where should we have JFest 2010? Multiple days? (Friday-Saturday? Saturday-Sunday?) Who would you like to see at JFest?

Give us your best case scenario. Would you like to see it at....(place).....on .....(days) and I want to see.....(who?) on the line up?

This afternoon my daughter, Lauren, will lace up her running shoes and run in the city cross country championship at Baylor High School. As a senior, this is her 7th year to run at that beautiful school. Many years she has run multiple races there. Baylor's course is not her favorite, in fact up until this year, she disliked that course very much.

Last night at the supper table, we were talking about the race today. She had the flu and missed about a week of running, (practice and 2 races). Her coach has given her the option of running with the varsity, (where she has earned a position), or forfeiting her spot on the 7 member varsity team and running on the JV team.

If she chooses to run JV then one of the girls who has run in her spot for two weeks will have to go back down to JV. For most students, this would not be a difficult decision. For my daughter, she is so compassionate-she is struggling with the decision.

What do you think she should do? As her parents we told her, that if she had not been sick, this would not even be a decision because she is the #2 or #3 runner. We advised her to go ahead and run the varsity race, (the runner she would displace is a sophomore, and has a couple of years left to run varsity.)

Tough decision, and we will be proud of her-whichever she chooses. In fact, we are already proud of her for her compassion and support of her teammates.

Most people that have a job description that includes the phrase "other duties as assigned" One of those things that was just added to mine and our music director Justins today was "Removing old satelite dishes and water logged concrete blocks from the station roof."

We received a phone call from our landlord here at the J103 facilities that two old satelite dishes from the old RX107 days was causing damage to the roof and causing leaks. In our lease we, the current media tennants were responsible for removing this archiac equipment.

I contacted a local crane service, The James Wilson Company, and they cut us a great deal for the use of a boom crane and operator. We contacted our station engineer Sam, and all met at 8:30 this morning to remove the two huge dishes. The dishes came off real easy, the most difficult part-the water-logged concrete blocks used to anchor the equipment.

As one of the dishes was being lowered to the ground, I had the thought of how radio technology has changed the message of Christian radio has not. Once new-those two big dishes helped broadcast the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world, (the old tennants actually used them to pull in programming), but now they were just a pile of scrap metal.

As I mentioned-the Gospel of Jesus Christ never changes. The Word of God is the same yesterday, today and forever. It is applicable to our every day life. If you have not asked Jesus Christ to come into your heart and life I encourage you to, right now, call 1888-Need-Him. Someone is sitting-waiting for your call-right now!

To see the pictures of our "Other Duty As Assigned" log on to our J103 Facebook page.

Getting sentimental in my "old" age

Yesterday afternoon I had to take one of our dogs back to the veternarian to have some post-operative stiches removed. The last time I was in that office was not a happy one. One of the saddest days of my life was when I had to take our ailing Beagle "Mandy" to be put to sleep. We had "adopted" her the day we got back from our honeymoon from the humane society in Louisville KY. We had that dog longer than any of our kids. I balled like a baby. Isn't it incredible how attached we get to those animals God gives us dominion over?

So, back to yesterday. I am sitting there with "Nala" and it was no time at all when they called her back. As they walked her to the back, she stopped right before the door and looked back at me with those big sad eyes. I got a huge lump in my throat. I vividly remembered my previous trip to the office. I looked through the open door of exam room #5 where I said goodbye to Mandy. I noticed the other pet owners sitting in the waiting room with their beloved animals and wondered how much their pets meant to them. One small older dog was waiting his turn to see the doctor. It's owner, a rather large, middle-aged man and his mother were holding it. He was hugging it real tight. I don't know what the dog was there for, maybe just shots or a check up, but I could sense the love they had for that dog.

Less than five minutes later the assistant brought Nala back out-stiches removed. Our canine was so excited, (I wonder if they gave her a lolipop or something?), we went out the door and were on our way.

I can remember thanking God for our previous animal member of our family and once again, (don't tell my wife), I thanked him for the four dogs we have. They bring so much joy to our lives don't they?

What about you? Any wonderful pet stories? I'd like to see if I am the only sentimantal sap.

I have been with J103 for almost every one of the Share-a-thons. This one seemed to have a really fresh presence of the Holy Spirit. It was evident in the testimonies, in the callers pledges and in the sacrifice of our volunteers that God was definately in control, on His throne and providing for His ministry.

After my show each day I would move into the telephone central room and relieve Justin. Thursday evening I was sitting at the laptop entering the pledges so that the guys in the studio could see the current totals. From my vantage point I could hear the volunteers speaking to each person that called. They would hand me the pledge form and I would enter it into the computer. I was the first person to be able to see the need being closer and closer to being reached! We actually met the need way before the 7pm deadline! Thank you Jesus! And what is more-God confirmed the fact that He is in control by allowing us to go over the need by $19,000+

Now don't forget to send in those pledges-this was perhaps the most important, crucial friendraiser we have ever had. Now can you imagine if all those who called in would continue to partner with us each month-we would never have to face a deficit like this again.

I can sense a new spirit of life to this ministry! Your ministry! God's ministry! Reaching people for Christ through the Power of One!

Have a great weekend!

As I sit here updating this blog-our Fall Friendraiser is going on, and I am sitting in telephone central, (after my 5 hour onair show), entering in the pledges and gifts that are coming in.

Those of you who have callled in are incredible! Thank you for making the transition from listener to partner. The phones have been ringing consistently.

When you call you are demonstrating The Power of One! Each and every gift, like the woman who annointed Jesus in Mark 14, is significant. Each $20, $40, $50 is just as important as the $500's and $1000's. They each are responsible in reaching people for Christ and encouraging those who already walk with Him.

Speaking of someone who walks with Him, remember in prayer Denia Reese. She is the Catoosa County Superintendent. I am sure you have seen in the news the controversy surrounding the LFO HS cheerleaders banners at the football games. For 20 years they have included inspirational, motivational scripture verses. A Fort Oglethorpe citizen has filed a complaint, therefore they have been banned.

As you can imagine, this has caused quite the stir/debate. Tonight there will a rally at the Fort Oglethorpe Chik-fil-a to support the cheerleaders and their signs.

Will Mrs. Reese be there? I don't know, but I firmly belive she would want to. She loves Catoosa County schools. She loves the students who attend Catoosa County schools. And I know she is a very Godly woman, who reads and follows God's Word, but she is faced with some very difficult decisions.

Make sure that in your debate and protests that you keep the issue at hand. What has to happen is the Consitutional rights of the cheerleaders have to be demonstrated. The Catoosa County School Board also has to protect the system from frivilous law suits.

Remember just because you disagree with the decisions or opionions of others, you are called by God to love, respect and pray for them.

I pray that this situation came be turned around and the cheerleaders rights to display any motivational, inspirational, quotes they wish, including those from the greatest motivational, inspirational book ever-God's Word.

What would normally be a 10 minute commute to Walmart took over an hour yesterday.

Chipper was out of school again yesterday, and had pre-ordered a new video game for his XBox 360. It was available at midnight the night before, but due to the time I have to get up and get to work, I told him he would have to wait until the next day to get it.

Well.......the flooding caused a small problem. When his nana and papa came to take him to the video store they got within site of the Walmart shopping center on Hwy 2A but were forced to turn back due to the police blocking the flooded road. He was so close.

Becuase I felt bad for him having to stay at home all day and (I know this is bad) read a book or watch TV and play his other (10,000) games, I told him I would get him to that video store somehow after I got off of work.

I went home and picked him up. We had to go to the end of Three Notch Road to Red Belt Road to the flooded out mill near Chickamauga, to Hwy 27 to the Chickamauga Battlefield, to the other end of Battlefield Pkwy to get his........video game! He was really grateful that I made the trip, and got him his newest addiction.

As I pulled out of the Walmart parking lot to make the (much longer) trek back home again, I saw the section of road that was shut down. It was only about 50 feet. I can see how people are tempted to drive around those "Road Closed" baricades and try to manuever the high waters. Now listen......I don't condone it!!! Follow the signs!!!! But with a boy desperate for a video game, I can see how parents might entertain that thought.

Because of just a "little amount" of shut down road, we were forced to take an hour round trip. It reminds me of the way J103 has been kept on the air all these years. Just a "Little amount" from many people has kept this ministry reaching people for Christ. Don't ever forget The Power of One! Your gift, given cheerfully is making a huge difference!
Thank you for reaching people for Christ!

Trevor got excited last night when talking to one of his good friends, learned that there would be no school in Catoosa County. How was he one of the first to know? Trevor's friend's dad is one of the Catoosa County Schools employee that makes the decision on school closings. I will keep his identity a secret so he doesn't get inundated with calls from Catoosa County students all winter!

As a child I can remember staying glued to the TV screen watching for our school's name to appear on the School Closing list, and for the most part to no avail. Our school system never closed! Very few times did we get out becasue of inclement weather-and when we did it was only in extreme blizzard conditions! We never even thought about being dismissed from school becuase of rain!

Living where I do now in Catoosa County-I understand now why schools dismiss or cancel becuase of coming bad weather. Student's safety is priority 1.

As a parent of three students, (two who are driving) I am thankful that there are people making those calls!

It's funny how our perspective changes isn't it? As a child we watch the school closings for much different reasons than we do as parents.
Kids want a break-Parents want to make sure their kids are safe. I don't think safety was ever one of the things that ran through my mind as a student. Thinking about safety is an adult thing!

I used to think that supporting Christian Radio was an adult thing also.
Students listen for the great music and leave the funding to the adults. I don't think that way anymore. Last week I was blessed by Cara and Chad Kent and their friend Cora Williams from Grace Bridge Church of Christ. Cara had a great idea to raise funds for J103....she headed up a "fundraising campaign" one Sunday morning in her church lobby. Equipped with handmade signs and a donation box these three incredible kids raised close to $300 for the ministry of J103. It was so cool to meet these awesome kids and their mom as they came and delivered the donation to their favorite radio station-J103. Thanks guys-we couldn't reach people with the gospel of Jesus Christ without you.

"Honey-you're life has just changed."

These were the words texted to Amyee Hargett from husband Jason, right after he sank a million dollar shot at a charity golf tournament. The Utah, steak house employee and father of 4 changed his mind at the last minute and decided to play that day in a golf tournament. He didn't have his clubs with him, so he borrowed his brothers and went to play. One of the holes was a contest hole where the 5 "closest to the pin" would get to shoot on a par 3 to win a million dollars. Jason qualified and then made the million dollar shot. He had already alerted his wife earlier in the day, via text that he would be taking a shot at the million dollars. After watching his ball go in the hole, and after picking himself up off the ground he texted his wife with the great news.

How would you alert your spouse you just won a million dollars? I posed this question this morning, and had some great calls.

Calls ranged from: I would go in and swoop my spouse off their feet like in the movie "Officer and a Gentleman" (and this was the wife talking!)

The wife of a local chicken farmer said she would slip a note under one of the chickens for her husband to find......what would the note say? You've just found a Golden Egg!

Limos picking up spouses at their places of employment, inviting spouses to meet them at the airport for exotic trips, and paying off all of the families bills and debts were the most popular.

Our favorite? The listener that called in to say the first thing they would do is stop by J103 to eliminate our deficit and rehire all of our laid off staff. We love you!!!!

If it were me? I would pay off all of our bills, (this would take about an hour or two-my wife handles our bills), and I would go purchase a brand new Chevy Camaro in my wife's favorite color. I would go and pick her up at work, invite her out into the parking lot, give her the keys to the car and let her know that we have to get to the airport because I have chartered a plane to take our family on a trip. I would also bless all of my favorite ministries and charities and put money away to secure our future.

It is so cool to dream-but we have to be careful to not take our eyes off of our Great Provider. God is already blessing us each and every day with more than we deserve. Don't forget that! But it's still cool to dream!

America's Got Talent!!!!

Well, last night's season finale of America's Got Talent has proven once again that everyone has some sort of talent. I don't know if you caught any of the acts on this season's competition, but it proved that there are all types of talent!

The winner this year is Kevin Skinner from Kentucky. Kevin is known as "The Chicken Catcher." He is a humble, God-fearing country boy who, no joke, works as a Chicken Catcher. He really stunned the world with his incredible country-style voice. Kevin won 1 million dollars and a headlining show on the strip of Las Vegas.

The amount of talent this season should not surprise us, the apostle Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 12 that we are all given at least one spiritual gift "talent" once you give your heart and life to Jesus.

What's your gift? Do you know? And most importantly are you using it?

What a Motivator!

It is impressive at how a TV show can really motivate you to stay faithful to your diet and exercise plan.

I have a confession to make. Those of you who followed the Morning Show with Ted last year-you heard all about my training for my first ever Bodybuilding Show. You had to put up with all the boiled egg whites, grilled chicken breasts and rice, protein shakes, talk. You endured all of the updates from my workout routines. I placed 4th out of 5 in the 2008 Battle of the River in Chattanooga.

I lost about 45 pounds and went from 21% body fat to about 8%. Well since the contest, I have put back on about 20 pounds. My new pants and shirts that I had purchased are feeling a little snug now. I have gone back to my old eating habits, of eating whatever I want basically, and have recently allowed my gym membership to expire, (that happens in a tough economy when you have a son in select soccer!).

I was sitting on the couch last night with my family and had just eaten 4 of the little mini-Heath candy bars. 4 of those "minis" probably equals a regular size candy bar right? As soon as I finished the last one the show The Biggest Loser came on. I suddenly was overcome with guilt. I heard the stories of these people who allowed their health to suffer because of their eating habits and lack of exercise.

God dealt with me last night and made me recomit to eating healthy and begin exercising more regularly again. What do you think? Can I lose 20 pounds by Christmas? That is my new goal!

Pray for me......join me in losing weight and becoming healthier this holiday season!

Drink your water!

Tuesday's Morning-Stop Complaining!

Isn't the new website awesome!!!

The only complaint I have is on the Morning Show with Ted page is a cup of coffee! I hate coffee! I have been giving our "web-master" a hard time about this. He is going to try to find a picture of a bagel and some orange juice or some yogurt-you know something more "Ted/Healthy"

Isn't that just like us-we have something as nice and wonderful as a new website and we just seem to pick out the flaws. I do this too often in life. We all do.

Wouldn't it be great if we could always have the contentment to see how blessed we really are every day? I am going to try to work on that. Want to join me?

Please continue to pray for J103. We are so thankful for all who have felt led and acted obediently in supporting our ministry in this economic crisis, but we still have a long way to go! Our Fall Friendraiser is about two weeks away, and we are going to be talking about the Power of One! One person's gift of $10, $20 $50, really does make a huge impact on this ministry. Pray about whether God wants you to support this incredible life-saving/changing media ministry.

Have a great Tuesday!

Ted's Morning Blog!

Welcome to the all-new J103 Web Page! We are so excited tro see your new link to "all-things J103" up and running. A lot of people have worked really hard to make this an up to date and effective connection to your favorite radio ministry.

Make sure you check out the morning show page. On the old J103 site Ted's Blog was the only place I could give you; The Power Verse of the Day, the DQ Birthday Cake winners, the Monday Morning Chuckle, Ted's Family Friendly Friday lists, and things like that. All of that and more is now on the Morning Show with Ted page.

This blog will be my online diary if you will. I will try to share with you all the things God is doing in my life and in the life of my family.

Speaking of that.....On a recent Monday, I learned that I no longer dislike a certain food. I have never liked tomatoes-I guess it's a texture thing. I can remember my Grandpa walking through his garden when I was a child and he would just pick a ripe tomato off of the vine and eat it. Would always gross me out. I love tomato soup. I love good salsa, but tomatoes by themselves.....Yuck! Well......a few of us were eating at a country style restaurant and on the buffet I thought they had fried squash, or eggplant-(both of which I love.) I got a couple pieces and ate them. They were delicious! I then asked the waitress if it was squash or eggplant. To my surprise......Fried Green Tomatoes! I was so shocked! They were so sweet and really good! I guess I now like Fried Green Tomatoes! My grandpa is probably laughing in Heaven right now!

Our life can be just like that......we spend most of our life "not liking something" when we haven't really given it much of a chance. I can honestly say, that I have never had Fried Green Tomatoes before that fateful meal. I know I didn't like fresh tomatoes, but who would of known-Green and fried?

What's the point? I guess I need to be a littel bit more open-minded about certain things........including certain veggies!! Are there things in your life that you unfairly "dislike?"

Thanks for listening! and for supporting J103!
