Could Amy Winehouse Have Been Saved?

It's the title of a news story this morning on the Today show. But they weren't talking about Amy giving her life to Christ, who died on the Cross to pay the price for her sin (and mine. and yours). They were talking about her getting help with her various drug addictions. Their version of saved: Getting off drugs and living a longer life.

So the answer to the question? Yes and Yes. Jesus died on the cross even for people with despicable lives. He died for people we write off every day. Jesus Christ died for Amy Winehouse. So yes. She could have been saved.

There are some great drug rehabilitation facilities that are very skilled at helping those with addicitions. So yes. She could also have been saved from her bad habits and her life on earth potentially prolonged.

But here's the burning question that will make you squirm...(like it does me). If Amy Winehouse had come in contact with you (or me) would she have heard about Jesus from us and had the opportunity to be saved? Or would we have crossed the street and walked down the other side...pretending we didn't notice her?

So, now that you've had a moment to contemplate your answer...here's a final thought. It's too late for Amy Winehouse. But what about the person that lives in your neighborhood, works with you, goes to school with youi? What about them? It's not too late.

Don't cross the street and walk down the other side. Proclaim the Gospel with boldness and share Christ with Love....with the Amy you know.

Just ponder the words to this Casting Crowns song:
She is running
A hundred miles an hour in the wrong direction
She is trying
But the canyon's ever widening
In the depths of her cold heart
So she sets out on another misadventure just to find
She's another two years older
And she's three more steps behind

Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
Or does anybody even know she's going down today
Under the shadow of our steeple
With all the lost and lonely people
Searching for the hope that's tucked away in you and me
Does anybody hear her? Can anybody see?
